Choral

"Old Man Platypus" - Unison / S.A. and piano (2002).  Also available S.S.A. a cappella (2003) - duration approx. 3 minutes

This is a setting of the famous Australian poem "Old Man Platypus" from "The Animals Noah Forgot" written by the poet A. B. Paterson.

The composer, Rosalind Carlson, has successfully realised the descriptiveness of the lyrics in this song.  The poem is really quaint as it describes the life of the Australian platypus in its natural environment.  The full poem is published in this format, and as such is an excellent teaching tool for Primary School aged children.

For simplicity this song can be sung fully in Unison.  The piano accompaniment is simple to play.

World Premiere Performance:  Voices of Women's Music Festival in Melbourne on 16th August 2003, sung by the Carlson Chorale.

Other Live Performances:

In 2003 Jan Hood, choral mistress and Hornsby Girls High School asked Rosalind is she would compose a S.S.A. a cappella setting of her Old Man Platypus song.  This S.S.A. setting Rosalind completed that year and dedicated it to Jan Hood and the Hornsby Girls High School choristers.  Subsequently the school choir entered the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod and won first place in the Secondary Schools Choral Section singing Old Man Platypus.

Suitability:  (1)  Junior aged choirs - School and Community choirs.  Excellent for competitions and Eisteddfods.  (2)  S.S.A. a cappella version is suitable for Secondary Level choirs and Youth choirs.  Also excellent for Eisteddfods.

Availability:  Music is readily available from Flexi-Fingers.  See order form.
