Composer's Comments:

This musical composition for flute ensemble is programmatic in concept.

It has been an enjoyable experience for me in my endeavours to describe in sound the various topographical features of the Wollongong area, and especially the birds in the bush.

As my aim in composing music is to capture in sound features of the natural Australian environment, I have found the Wollongong terrain to be of particular interest.

This programmatic work "An Australian Tone Poem for Wollongong" opens with the rugged mountain heights (Mt. Keira, Kembla, Ousley) which form the backdrop to the remaining scenes. These feature the beautiful harbour with its sandy beaches rolling waves, and iconic lighthouse beaming over the harbour.

In the Illawarra area there are a number of delightful bushwalks where the many local birds can be observed. These birds in the bush have a special place in my tone poem.
