Old Man Platypus for choral S.S.A. a cappelle “Old Man Platypus” - Unison / S.A. and piano (2002). Also available S.S.A. a cappella (2003) - duration approx. 3 minutes
This is a setting of the famous Australian poem "Old Man Platypus" from "The Animals Noah Forgo" written by the poes A. B. Paterson. The composer, Rosalind Carlson, has successfully realised the descriptiveness of the lyrics in this song. The poem is really quaint as it describes the life of the Australian platypus in its natural environment. The full poem is published in this format, and as such is an excellent teaching tool for Primary School aged children. For simplicity this song can be sung fully in Unison. The piano accompaniment is simple to play. World Premiere Performance: Voices of Women's Music Festival in Melbourne on 16th August 2003, sung by the Carlson Chorale. Centenary Celebrations On 13th July 2012 the Music Teachers' Association of NW held their Centenarary Celebration at Parliament House, Sydney. At this event during the Centenerary Luncheon the Carlson Choralke performed a bracket od choral music including "Old Man Platypus" SSA conducted by Rosalind Carlson. Other Live Performances: 30th November 2003 at St George Maronite Catholic Church in Thornleigh, NSW, Australia, by the Carlson Chorale in recital. 20th November 2005 at Mt St Benedict Convent Chapel, Pennant Hills, NW, Australia, by the Carlson Chorale. For this performance Rosalind Carlson composed an additional instrumental part for Treble Recorder. This was performed by Stephanie Harrisson.
