“Psalms of Joy & Praise”, Opus 33 for S.A.T.B. Acappella Choir Choral
This arrangement is commissioned by Aleta King Director of Avondale Conservatorium, for the Avondale Singers. The commission for an S.A.T.B. version of my acapella S.S.A.A. choral work “Psalms of Joy” (1997), has inspired mee to make compositional changes. It has also given me freedom in thought especially harmonically. A feature of this musical composition is a vocal “bell-tolling” motif, which is sung to the word “joy”. This “joy” motif rings through the choir in the opening section, and then later as an effective coda to the work. The lyrics I selected from the Biblical Psalms. I chose words of joy, rejoicing and praise. These are taken from Psalms 9:11; 81:1; 33:1, 3, 6, 9; and 96:11-13. In the second half “a new song” leads into the creation of the world. This is then followed by the “joy” motif coda. Lyrics “Psalms of Joy & Praise” (S.A.T.B.) 2020 Music by Rosalind Carlson OAM Words: Biblical Psalms Joy Make a joyful sound, Joy, Sing Alleluia Sing a joyful song unto the Lord.
